Shed ladies nail first tool workshop
A group of ladies spent Wednesday hammering, sawing, sanding and gluing during the first Ulladulla Woman’s Shed hands-on woodworking event.
Six women got their hands dirty making donation boxes for their organisation at the Dunn Lewis Centre.
The ladies agreed picking up a hammer or power tool for the first time was empowering.
Shed president Liz Carpenter said the group hoped to turn out 20 timber donation boxes that would be painted purple and placed around town to raise funds for the group.
The ladies cut the timber, glued and nailed the pieces together, then sanded and painted the boxes.

Barbara Murray nailed her first attempt at using a jigsaw to cut out the roof of her little house.
In the lead up to the gathering, shed treasurer Cherie Nagle spent the weekend learning to use some of the tools so she could teach others in the group.
Liz said the workshop was the first of many hoped to give women the skills to do small repairs around their home, make and restore furniture and provide a chance for ladies to get together socially.
Members of the group will learn some mechanical basics, such as check oil and changing a tyre, at a workshop to be held at B&J Mechanical on Friday June 12.
